More info

Nestled in the heart of the Central Loire, the Sancerre appellation stands as one of the most prestigious symbols of French winegrowing. Among its most legendary localities, Les Monts-Damnés holds a special place. Its evocative name is said to come from the hardship faced by winegrowers working its steep slopes. Facing due south on the hillsides of Chavignol, the parcel rests on a base of Kimmeridgian marls composed of fossil-rich limestone and clay.
Harvesting is done entirely by hand in small crates, with strict sorting in the vineyard to retain only the healthiest bunches. The grapes are pressed whole, and fermentation occurs naturally with native yeasts, without any œnological inputs. The wine is then aged for 12 months on full lees in demi-muids and foudres (large wooden tuns), with no stirring.
The wine presents a bright, pale yellow hue. The nose captivates with its precision and finesse, opening on floral notes of vine blossom and elderflower, evolving toward aromas of ripe lemon and white peach, underscored by a chalky, saline and lightly smoky backbone that speaks clearly of its terroir. On the palate, the wine is precise and finely chiselled, marked by remarkable purity and tension.

About the Producer Vincent Gaudry

At the foot of Sancerre hill, in Sury-En-Vaux lies Domaine Vincent Gaudry. Family run for several generations, Vincent Gaudry started working his father's 9 hectares of vines at the tender age of 16. Three years later, in 1993, Vincent decided to start the transition to organic and biodynamic viticulture. Today, the domain holds Demeter certification (organically certified since 2002 and biodynamically certified since 2006). The vineyard now spans 11 hectares and is laid out mostly to Sauvignon Blanc, although there is some Pinot Noir. For Vincent, the vineyard is truly his garden. The soil is ploughed and fertilised with the help of compost and various biodynamic preparations such as plant-based concoctions and Bordeaux mixture. In his quest for an authentic wine that is true to its terroir, the vinification process is also a ‘hands off' affair. We foresee a bright future for the elegant wines of Vincent Gaudry: they are beautifully balanced with wonderful energy, tension and minerality.
