Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots Mongeard-Mugneret (Domaine) 1990
The wine
Situated near to a Thalweg (a low valley), these vintages are nevertheless homogenous and precise, with a full-bodied and elegant character. Its colour leans towards a lovely, dark ruby hue, and its nose reveals a complex blend of spices, ripe fruit, vanilla, and caramel. Its texture is supple thanks to the delicate tannins that give it pleasant length on the palate.
About the Producer Mongeard-Mugneret
Today, the Mongeard-Mugneret domain manages, in true Burgundy tradition, a large number of vineyards which spread across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, encompassing the most prestigious "villages" (Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot, Nuits Saint Georges and Savigny les Beaune). The heart of the domain remains at Vosne Romanée. Vincent Longeard, Jean's son, endeavours not only to look after and improve the family's heritage, but also to extend the domain's range of wines whenever an opportunity arises. Today, the domain counts roughly 30 hectares, spread over 33 appellations producing Burgundy whites and Aligotés, but it mainly produces red wines that come from the best vineyards of the Côte. The vineyard, situated at mid-slope, is south-east orientated and on clay-limestone soil.
