More info

Domaine Marcel Lapierre produces an exceptional cuvée with this sulphur-free Morgon, made from Gamay Noir grapes with white juice. The vines, averaging 70 years, thrive on poor, acidic granite soil, which gives the wine its remarkable character. The estate practises organic viticulture, which respects the terroir and preserves the quality of the grapes. Grapes are hand-picked and carefully sorted, sometimes in two passes to select the best bunches. The winemaking process follows the traditional Beaujolais semi-carbonic method, without the addition of sulphites or yeast. The maceration period varies between 10 and 21 days. The juice is then matured in 216-litre oak casks for around 9 months, before being bottled in two different ways?–?unfiltered but with sulphites, or unfiltered and sulphite-free.
The aromas of Morgon are dominated by notes of cherry and liquorice, characteristic of the region. On the palate, this deliciously juicy elixir is full of cherry flavours and well balanced, showcasing the quality of the terroir and the estate’s mastery of the winemaking process.

About the Producer Marcel Lapierre

Domaine Marcel Lapierre has established itself as an undisputed benchmark in Beaujolais of fine natural wine. Certified organic since 2006, the estate has taken inspiration from biodynamic methods for the past 40 years, caring for roughly 10,000 vines per hectare. The Gamay vines (the only variety on the property) cut into a goblet shape are, on average, 60 to 70 years old and are spread across 18 hectares. After being harvested by hand and rigorously sorted, the full bunches undergo natural vinification and, as is the tradition in Beaujolais, it leads onto semi-carbonic maceration. Depending on the cuvées, ageing takes place in barrels that are more than 100 years old, 228 litre barrels that are between 4 and 27 years old and fibreglass vats (for the Beaujolais Village wines). No new wood is used so that it doesn't leave an impression on the wine. If the vintage allows it, no sulphur is added during vinification.
The charming wines with crisp fruit aromas that are fresh, delicious and aerial leave you wanting more. Immediate pleasure guaranteed ... Or you could leave the wines to age for several years. The Morgons age particularly gracefully. This is one of the most legendary domains in Beaujolais and a sound investment.
