Lot presentation

Château de Fargues 2006

The wine

Powerful yet incredibly elegant, the wine is so rich and creamy that it is almost syrup-like. It offers complex and flavoursome aromas of citrus fruits, exotic fruits and broom, as well as toasted bread and mellow spices. A great fortified wine designed to be aged. It is worth noting that the estate does not produce a Second Wine, but does make a delicious dry white, the Guilhem de Fargues.

About the Producer Château de Fargues

The Château de Fargues estate has been the stronghold of the Lur Saluces family since 1472. Historically, however, the vineyard was devoted to the production of red wines intended solely for family consumption. This explains why the cru was not taken into consideration for the famous 1855 Sauternes classification.
Let’s step back in time. In 1922, Bertrand de Lur Saluces took charge of the family properties. Recognising the latent potential of Fargues, he replanted the vineyard with white grape varieties, releasing the estate’s first vintage in 1947. For many years, this cru remained in the shadow of Yquem. Following the sale of this illustrious neighbour to LVMH in 2004, however, Count Alexandre de Lur Saluces (until his passing in July 2023) and his son Philippe have devoted themselves entirely to Fargues: restoring the magnificent château, originally built from 1306 onwards, and producing an exceptional Sauternes crafted without compromise.
