The wine
The Zinnkoepflé Grand Cru translates literally as “Sun Mountain”, a fittingly majestic name for the terroir on which Philippe Jubler cultivates his gewurztraminer grapes with all the respect of his family tradition. The fruit is harvested by hand and fermented without added yeasts. Over time, the resulting wine is progressively aromatic, generous and mellow with delectable notes of spice.
About the Producer Paul Kubler
Paul Kubler is a thirteeth-generation winemaker – his antecedants began winemaking in 1620 – who is renowned for the exceptional purity of his wines. Currently in the process of converting his vineyard to organic cultivation, Kubler is particularly alert to respecting the vines and the traditional local grape varieties. He lets Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Gris and Noir speak for themselves on his 9 hectares of vineyard around Soultzmatt, featuring some parcels of Grand Cru Zinnkoepflé. His wines are split into three tiers, of an ever-increasing quality: the Vins de Fruits, or “fruit wines” which are made to express varietal character; the terroir-driven Vins de Pierre or “stone wines” and the Vins Liquoreux or “sweet wines” which include the Vendanges Tardives and Sélections de Grains Nobles.
