The wine

La Combe d’Orveaux is Chambolle’s southern Premier Cru, bordering the Grand Cru Musigny in places. The parcels of old vines benefit from ideal south and south-east exposure on calcareous, sandy and stony soils with fine marl pockets that lend both concentration and finesse to the wine. In the winery, the fruit undergoes a period of vatting in open tanks with gentle extraction. The wine is then aged in oak casks for sixteen months before bottling without fining.
In the glass, the ruby hue is tinged with bright highlights. The floral bouquet reveals intense violet and rose, combined with fine spice, red fruit and subtle mineral notes. On the palate, a silky attack reveals precise, refined tannins, carrying the wine toward a long, floral, saline finish that promises several fine years of ageing.

About the Producer Bruno Clavelier

Domaine Bruno Clavelier has been located in Vosne-Romanée since the end of the 18th century. Formerly a trading house of the same name, managed by another branch of the family, the house sold the wines of the domaine but was was sold in 1991. Bruno Clavelier decided therefore to abandon his career as a rugby player to devote himself to the few remaining plots and to bottle his own wine. He was initially helped by his Burgundy grandfather, Joseph and joined by his wife Val?rie in 2003. Bruno Clavelier subsequently increased his domaine to 6 hectares (with plots acquired in Vosne-Romanée, Corton, Nuits- Saint-Georges and also Chambolle-Musigny) and converted the domaine to organic farming. Some old vineyards of the domaine were planted between 1930 and 1940. Bruno Clavelier produces about fifteen excellent cuvées. It is an exceptional example, and starting to become well-known amongst lovers of great Burgundy wines.
