Lot presentation

Alsace Gewurztraminer Albert Boxler 2021

The wine

Gewürztraminer is a flagship Alsace grape variety, renowned for its powerful aromatics. The vines, aged between 35 and 70 years, thrive on limestone terroirs in Turckheim and Katzenthal, notably the Boland and Heimbourg crus. These limestone-rich soils lend the wine fine minerality and a bright acidity, hallmarks of the finest Alsace Gewürztraminer. After manual harvests, the grapes are transported to the winery, where they are gently pressed as whole berries, followed by static settling. Fermentation runs for 2 to 6 months on lees, and the wine is then aged for 11 months also on lees.
The pale yellow hue reveals a subtle and expressive, bouquet marked by aromas of white flowers, rose, lychee and tropical fruit, lifted by delicate spicy nuances. On the palate, a fresh, precise attack reveals a supple, elegant texture. Tropical fruit flavours intertwine with fine minerality, leading into a long, fresh, lightly saline finish. The finish is long, fresh, offering a slightly saline touch.

About the Producer Albert Boxler

An emblematic domain of the Alsace region, Albert Boxler comprises 19 hectares of which half are classed Grand Cru. Founded towards the end of the 1940s, the domain favours clean and careful growing. In any case, the vines planted on steep terrain cannot be reached by machines. The treatments used are organic and the yields are masterful. In the cellar, indigenous yeasts carry out their work, and the wines are matured in old barrels in order to avoid a flavour that is marked by wood, and stirring is banned. The current owner, Jean Boxler, seeks before all else to highlight the particularities of the grape varieties and the terroirs through fine, taut and crystalline wines. This talent is particularly embodied in the careful work of Jean Boxler, who sees wine as a space of freedom and expression. It is therefore as an artist that he produces his lingering wines, possessing a noble texture and great delicacy.
