Named after the locality Sous la Velle, this Chardonnay is a true expression of the historic Meursault terroir, where the combination of geographical features, soil types, and vine exposure allows the wine to develop delicate aromas of flowers and citrus with remarkable finesse.
More infoThe Sous la Velle cuvée embodies the elegance of the Meursault appellation, renowned since the Middle Ages for its prestigious white wines. Situated in a historic locality, the plots of Chardonnay vines are planted at the foot of the slope, on a terroir of limestone marl and deep clay soils. This unique soil provides the wine with a mineral structure and exceptional aromatic finesse. The grapes, cultivated using organic practices, are hand-harvested at perfect ripeness and carefully sorted. In the winery, fermentation occurs naturally in oak barrels, thanks to the berries’ native yeasts. The wine is then aged for 12 months on fine lees, which imparts roundness and complexity.
In the glass, this Meursault displays a pale gold colour with radiant reflections. The nose, marked by great purity, reveals aromas of citrus, white flowers, and a hint of hazelnut The attack is fresh, leading into a smooth, creamy texture, with a long, mineral finish.
About the Producer Roulot
Domaine Roulot, located in Meursault, is a family farm whose origins go back to the end of the 18th century. Guy Roulot has made this domaine one of the best of appellations (alongside Domaines such as Dominique Lafon and Coche Dury) and it now produces some of the best white wines of all Burgundy. Jean-Marc Roulot took over his father's domaine in 1989, casting aside his career as an actor (although he did not totally abandon it). The 11-hectare vineyard has been certified as organic farming since 1998 and biodynamic since the early 2000s. The vines are generally quite old, planted in the 1950-1960s from mass selection, mainly in white. Jean-Marc Roulot is unanimously recognised by his peers and by enthusiasts around the world, for his biological approach to the care given to vines, strict control of yields and perfectly controlled vinification and élevage with little intervention. Jean-Marc Roulot has chosen to vinify separately the different cuvées of Meursault villages to restore their specific characteristics. The wines are distinguished by their purity, freshness and fine minerality, thanks to harvesting with the correct ripeness. They are of an exceptionally high quality and have an assertive style. However, they are highly sought after and difficult to obtain.
