Volume, finesse and persistence define this delightful Pinot Noir from Burgundy, produced from a plot that the family-run estate owns entirely.
More infoDomaine Dubreuil-Fontaine has been working in the Côte de Beaune for five generations, producing great wines from wonderful Premier and Grand Cru appellations. In the hands of Christine Dubreuil and her daughter Clémentine, we have this Pernand-Vergelesses made from Pinot Noir grapes around 25 years old, planted within the Clos Berthet climate, which is owned entirely by the estate. It extends over 0.5 hectares, halfway up the hillside, facing south-west. Environmentally-friendly cultivation encourages the vines to draw the necessary nutrients from the clay, limestone and white marl soils.
The grapes are collected by hand and sorted before traditional vinification which is characterised by full destemming and steeping in temperature-regulated stainless steel vats for two weeks. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for between one year and 15 months; the proportion of new wood is considered to be quite low, at 15%.
The wine's fruity notes are particularly pure. We discover hints of red cherries, strawberries and raspberries enhanced by violets and black pepper on the finish. Voluminous on the palate, this wine is nonetheless fine and persistent.
