The wine
Produced from the the domain's oldest Cabernet Franc and Saumur-Champigny vines (planted in 1943 and cultivated in sandy clay soils), this cuvée has been matured for 24 months in 400-litre barrique and foudre barrels. Built for keeping, it is marked by intensely fruity notes and a great structure, and also a fresh finish.
About the Producer Château du Hureau
In the heart of the Loire, Château du Hureau has been making superb wines since the end of the eighteenth century. Generation after generation, vines have been grown on twenty or so hectares divided into twenty parcels spread across the famous communes of Saumur, Souzay-Champigny and Dampierre. The land is planted primarily with Cabernet Franc which reigns supreme in the Saumur Champigny appellation. As for Chenin Blanc, it is used to produce white Saumur wines and Coteaux de Saumur. The vines develop on a terroir that is typical for the area, being composed primarily of tufa and limestone. Philippe Vatan has been running this organically certified domaine since 2011, assisted by his daughter Agathe over the past few years. Together they make red wines with great finesse, dry white wines and even dessert and sweet wines, whenever the climat allows it.
