Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée Buisson-Charles (Domaine) 2013

The wine

Located north of Chassagne, Romanée is undoubtedly one of the region’s greatest and highest-quality Premier Cru terroirs. While it may not be mentioned on the bottle labels, this terroir falls within what is known as the Grande Montagne, an area with an iconic character. The Chardonnay vines planted on a steep incline at the top of a slope, climb over shallow brown limestone soils, mostly composed of small pebbles. The estate meticulously applies organic farming methods both in the cellar and in the vineyards, and is currently in the process of obtaining its certification.
The bright, pale gold colour reveals a delicate, refined nose, marked by hints of flint stone and bursting with floral fragrances such as acacia, lime blossom and vine flower. The palate is incredibly lively, full of white fruit and citrus aromas accented by a fine salinity, leading to a long, flavoursome finish.

About the Producer Buisson-Charles

Managed by Catherine Buisson and her husband Patrick Essa, Domaine Buisson-Charles encompasses around 8 hectares of vines planted mainly in the surroundings of the Meursault appellation. As of 2020, the domain is in the process of organic transition, though particular care has always been given to the vines and no weed killers have ever been used in the vineyard. Particularly concentrated due to the age of the vines (30 to 90 years), the wines from this domain are made to be aged. In 2011, the domain developed their own merchant activity with prestigious crus in Chablis, Puligny-Montrachet and Corton-Charlemagne. In these wines we find the same level of work as in those made from property grapes. There are also new innovations and methods tried out each year, hence the vinifications in whole harvests for the reds, a process that brings a crisp quality and bright personality.
