Pommard 1er Cru Marthe Henry 2018

The wine

The village of Pommard, located between Beaune and Volnay, is one of the most celebrated appellations of the Côte de Beaune. Here, Pinot Noir vines grow on marl-rich clay-limestone soils enriched with iron. This clay-rich terroir brings power and density to the wine, while the limestone contributes freshness and precise aromas. Marthe Henry vinifies micro-parcels following manual harvests. In the winery, alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine is then aged in Burgundian barrels (228-litre pièces) for around 20 months.
The intense ruby-red hue shows garnet highlights. The expressive bouquet reveals black fruits, Morello cherry and violet, alongside notes of undergrowth and spice. On the palate, the dense, fleshy texture reveals firm yet elegant tannins, with a superb balance of power and freshness leading into a long, fruit-driven finish.

About the Producer Marthe Henry

Following her initial career in journalism, Marthe Henry, granddaughter of the great Burgundy wine icon Pierre Boillot, embraced the winemaking trade in 2013. Passionate and determined, she settled in Meursault and started her training at the Lycée Viticole (wine college) before embarking on a long and thorough apprenticeship with her friends Pierre-Henri Rougeot and Jean-Yves Devevey. Early on, she built up her own business, a micro-trading operation offering premium wines. It was in 2023 that she took over some family vines for the first time, wishing to cultivate and vinify them in a pure, natural style. In the winery, vinification is low interventionist and the wines are matured in oak casks for a minimum of 18 months. Her first vintages already reflect her refined talent, combined with the wealth of a powerful and unique family heritage.
