Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Fréderic Esmonin Esmonin 2003
The wine
The terroir of Chambertin Clos de Bèze consists of clay-limestone soils with layers of hard limestone that ensure excellent drainage and allow the vines to draw nourishment slowly. This singular terroir offers a perfect combination of minerality and freshness. Harvesting is carried out by hand, with meticulous sorting of the grapes in the vineyard to guarantee quality. After picking, the bunches are placed in vats and fermentation begins spontaneously with native yeasts, to respect the natural expression of the terroir. The wine then ages in oak casks, with around 30% new wood.
The wine reveals a striking, almost purplish-red hue. The nose is intense and complex, marked by ripe black fruit, interwoven with spice and subtle oak notes. The attack is generous and silky on the palate, then develops a dense, robust structure.
About the Producer Frédéric Esmonin
Frédéric Esmonin took up the family domain in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1988, after beginning a career as a négociant in Burgundy, an activity that he still pursues. This is a discrete name but it hasn't gone unnoticed in this most famous winemaking region.
