Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Rémilly Hubert Lamy 2019
The wine
In the early 1980s, En Rémilly was nothing more than a field of pebbles. Hubert Lamy decided to rend a few hectares and planted 2 ha of Chardonnay in 1989. After long fermentation and cask-élevage, the wine has a discrete nose which contrasts with spicy touches.
About the Producer Hubert Lamy
With 18.5 hectares spread over six appellations (which includes the Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru), Olivier Lamy – who runs the estate – is one of the best ambassadors of the Saint-Aubin appellation, which is sadly not well known and produces a superb alternative to Chassagne wines. These wines are perfectly pure, taut and elegant thanks to the carefully ageing work.
The Lamy family has been working in Saint-Aubin since the mid-17th century, about 1640. It was Hubert Lamy, Olivier’s father, who created the estate in 1973 with eight hectares of vines. The property grew in the 1990s before Olivier Lamy joined his father in 1995 after finishing his studies in wine and undertaking several apprenticeships to understand wine better. Father and son bridge the worlds of tradition and innovation together before Hubert passed away in 2022 at the age of 79.
In the vineyard as in the winery, the work is carried out meticulously following organic principals (non-certified). The different terroirs, which are densely planted to concentrate the grapes, are vinified separately in 600-litre barrels (with very little new wood). A not-to-be-missed estate in the Côte de Beaune!
