The wine
The result of biodynamic agriculture, the Corton-Charlemagne of this domain is pale golden in colour with a delicate and memorable bouquet. Blended together are aromas of white fruits, white flowers, honey, cinnamon, and herbs such as fern. The dense and supple texture is carried by a fine minerality which gives it freshness and good cellaring potential.
About the Producer En Belles Lies
After a career in Paris focused on industry and commerce, Pierre Fenals decided to make a start in wine by creating En Belles Lies during 2009. “I am not a winemaker, nor am I from Burgundy. I just had a great desire to leave the city behind, and pursue my passion for wine. I didn't know much about vines either," says the winemaker.
Passionate about nature and working with the seasons, Pierre follows a biodynamic philosophy, although not currently certified. Today, he manages 7 hectares of vines, supplemented by bought grapes. His vinification methods are characterised by only using indigenous yeasts, they are almost totally absent of sulphur and chemicals, and undergo extremely long fermentation processes. Ageing is also a rather long process, taking 18-22 months. “We work in a simple way, our vinification is slow, ageing too. We're not in a hurry. I try to create rustic wines, that are immediately understandable, with a typicity that resembles the appellation," Pierre says.
