Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières Henri Clerc 2000
The wine
Quite understated, Domaine Henri Clerc crafts a Puligny-Montrachet premier cru from Chardonnay cultivated in chalk and marl soil. The vines enjoy the influence of an oceanic climate.
This is a wine that will gain in nobility over time. With its beautiful, golden colour and aromatic generosity, it gives off notes of white flowers, crisp, white fruit, minerals, and butter, as well as some vegetal and nutty hints. This complexity is also found on the palate through an ample texture and a certain depth structured by pleasant acidity. This is promising in terms of ageing potential, so we recommend uncorking this bottle after around 15 years in the cellar. It should be served with a noble dish involving fish or poultry.
About the Producer Henri Clerc
Domaine Henri Clerc et Fils was founded in the 16th century in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet. In 2002, his descendant Bernard Clerc, retired and sold a large part of his vines to Vincent Girardin. The latter vinifies and matures his wines at Meursault, after manual harvesting of the prestigious vines of the Côte de Beaune, such as Bienvenue, Bâtard-Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet. The time taken for aging in oak barrels (of which 30% are renewed each year), varies between 11 and 13 months
