Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot Berthelemot 2014
The wine
Tucked away at the heart of the Abbaye de Morgeot area, the Chardonnay vines flourish in a site steeped in history. In 1150, the Cistercian monks of the Maizière Abbey introduced a new hamlet to the south of Chassagne. The Chardonnay vines enjoy a south-easterly exposure in a gently slopping landscape. The limestone soils, with their reddish colour attributable to iron oxide, contribute to the distinctive character of the estate’s wines. The plot, located at an altitude ranging from 230 to 240 metres, is harvested early and carefully to preserve the freshness of the fruit.
The bright, slightly golden colour is complemented by a delicate bouquet of flowers and fresh fruit with hints of honey. Powerful, rich and mineral on the palate, with an intense freshness and persistence on the finish. This cuvée promises long, excellent ageing potential.
