What makes this wine special?

A lively and unique white wine, crisp and salty, vinified without inputs, offering a wonderful natural alternative to the classic grape varieties in the Loire Valley.

More info

This wine, produced in the Loire Valley, is a unique and daring proposition, classified as a Vin de France due to the use of a grape variety not authorised in AOC wines: Cabernet Blanc, a recent hybrid cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and an unnamed variety resistant to fungal diseases. The Anjou terroir, combining shale, clay and gravel, brings a mineral tension and a wonderful freshness to this unique white wine. The wine is vinified naturally and with as little intervention as possible: hand-harvests, spontaneous fermentation, no fining or filtration, and finally ageing on lees in stainless steel vats.
Its colour is pale and bright with green glints. The nose is aromatic, carried by citrus fruits, crisp white fruits, fresh herbs and a hint of floral notes. On the palate, the wine is delicious, direct and slightly salty, with a mineral tension and a wonderfully herby length which is reminiscent of a natural Sauvignon Blanc, but with a more vegetal and original character.

Ask Margaux, your digital sommelière, a question

Nicolas Réau settled at Clos des Treilles in 2002. This 7-hectare domain is in the Anjou appellation. The name comes from a 2-hectare Clos that dates back several centuries. Located on a major fault line where the Armorican Massif meets the Paris basin, the domain's terroir is rich with 180 million years of geological history, with rich, complex sub-soils. Nicolas is a former pianist; he decided to give up music in favour of wine, more specifically natural wine. The domain obtained organic certification in 2012; it favours 3-week long macerations and natural yeasts which contribute to the high quality of wines produced. This vigneron is a talented producer who, year after year, produces very fine natural wines.
