The wine

Considered as the largest wine producing region in Germany, the Palatinate region shares its southern border with France. While Riesling and Moselle are the majority grape varieties, accounting for 65% of the vines, Pinot Noir, also known as Spätburgunder, accounts for 7% of production. The vines, cultivated in soils primarily composed of limestone, take advantage of the temperate, dry summers and the gentle winters. The nearby forest acts as a shield from the heavy rain and strong winds. The crop is harvested entirely by hand, followed by low-intervention vinification with destemmed grapes. Finally, the cuvée is aged in vats and barrels for around 12 months before bottling.
The ruby-red colour unveils a concentrated and expressive nose, complimented by aromas of red fruits. On the palate, the ripe tannins combine elegantly with fruity aromas, leading to an indulgent, fresh and long finish.

About the Producer Friedrich Becker

In 1973, the family farm in the southern part of Germany’s Palatinate-Rhenan region was transformed into a vineyard. Over the years, the estate has developed steadily and now totals almost 14 hectares of vines. With the support of his son Frits and his sister Héléna, Friedrich Becker has earned a reputation for producing Pinot Noir cuvées that rank among Germany’s finest red wines. The Pinot Noir and Riesling vines, averaging 45 years of age, thrive on poor, stony, chalky soils with a high clay content. The vineyard is also protected from strong winds and rain by the Palatinate Forest which acts as a natural barrier. Yields are carefully controlled and a finely balanced viticulture is practised to produce high-quality, concentrated and fragrant grapes for exceptional wines.
