Beaune 1er Cru Cent Vignes Domaine Albert Morot 2008
The wine
The prestigious Beaune Premier Cru appellation is home to the Cent Vignes climat, whose name refers to an old cadastral division that once comprised around a hundred parcels, making it a historic benchmark terroir within the town of Beaune. Located on the eastern side of the appellation, this climat lies on well-drained, pebbly clay-limestone soils rich in iron oxide. The vines are cultivated according to organic principles, with careful attention to soil vitality and vine balance. Manual harvests are followed by meticulous sorting both in the vineyard and winery. The grapes are fully destemmed before traditional alcoholic fermentation in stainless-steel vats with native yeasts. Vatting lasts for around three weeks before the wine is run off. It is then aged in French oak casks for 16 months.
In the glass, the wine presents a superb ruby-red hue. The nose opens with intense aromas of fresh red fruit, lifted by floral notes and a touch of spice. On the palate, a supple attack is supported by fine, smooth tannins and vibrant bright acidity. The long, persistent finish highlights mineral nuances and a sense of finesse typical of this Premier Cru.
About the Producer Albert Morot
In 1820, Albert Morot founded a trading house. It was not until 1984 that Françoise Choppin, his descendant, decided to stop trading (as did many future domaines in Bourgogne at the same time), to produce her own wines. Today, Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry manages the 8-hectare domaine. After training as an agronomic engineer, he made the transition towards organic farming. His wines are of high quality, whatever the vintage, and are always dense and fruity with fine tannins.
