Lot presentation

Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Etelois Duroché (Domaine) 2016

The wine

Domaine Duroché has been in the same family for five generations and produces with discretion, on just under ten hectares, high-quality, specialist wines. Here we have a Gevrey-Chambertin from the Aux Etelois climat. Planted between the 1920s and 1950s, the Pinot Noir vines that make up this vineyard soak up their nutrients from soils rich in crinoid fossil limestone. Production involves cultivation methods that respect the environment, like ploughing, natural cover cropping and a ban on chemical additives. The grapes are harvested by hand and are thoroughly sorted. In the cellar, the desire to produce a terroir-driven wine dominates and involves careful extraction, maturation for between thirteen and fifteen months and bottling without prior fining or filtration.
Classed as an appellation villages (village appellation), this wine comes from a terroir that borders the famous Charmes Grand Cru to the south and the Griottes Grand Cru to the north. For this reason, the grapes bring a special complexity to the wine which, made for cellaring, is elegant, brimming with character and a wonderful tannic structure.

About the Producer Duroché

Domaine Duroché has been managed by the same family for five generations; they bottled their wines for the first time in 1933. Their vines now span 8 hectares in the Côte de Nuits' top appellations, including Gevrey-Chambertin premier and grand cru and Chambertin Clos de Bèze. For these producers, having top quality grapes is expedient to making good wine. To grow healthy grapes, soils are tilled and grass is allowed to grow between rows; synthetic products are not used. The same philosophy presides in the winery. Extractions are moderate, the élevage lasts between 13 and 15 months and the wines are bottled without filtration. We particularly enjoy these wines for their fruit-driven character, whether drank young or after some cellaring.
