Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots Remoissenet Père et Fils 1985

The wine

Les Suchots, a Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, is produced from the clay-limestone soils in the area. This high-quality terroir is located between two prestigious Grand Cru areas, Richebourg and Echézeaux. The harvests are carried out by hand and the grapes are generally destemmed before being fermented in vats for around 15 to 20 days. Gentle pumping over and punching down is carried out during the fermentation period to extract the colour and aromas. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels, often for a period of between 12 to 18 months. Some of the casks are new, while others have been used several times, adding complexity and depth.
This wine has intense aromas of cherry and raspberry, as well as of roses and violets. Spiced notes of cinnamon, cloves and wood also appear which were imparted by the barrels during ageing. The wine is structured with fine and silky tannins, offering a wonderful freshness and a long finish.

About the Producer Remoissenet Père et Fils

Maison Remoissenet Père & Fils was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by Pierre Alfred Remoissenet. In 2004, his great grandson, Roland Remoissenet, decided to hand it over and sold the domaine to Eddy & Howard Milstein, New York bankers and wine collectors. The latter then entrusted the general management to Bernard Repolt, a HEC business school graduate who had previously managed Maison Jadot, the son of doctors from Beaune. There he produces high quality wines which are precise, concentrated, reflect their soil and which are blessed with supple tannins and fine balance.
