Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Perrot-Minot 2001

The wine

This Burgundy estate, founded in the mid-19th century, stretches over a dozen hectares of vines on some very fine parcels, including the ones in Clos Vougeot, which we are talking about here. The resulting wine is crafted from very old vines of Pinot Noir, a noble grape variety typical of the region. The vines thrive in an oceanic climate with a semi-continental influence, and draw the nutrients they require from soils consisting of clay and limestone, ideal elements for creating a balance in the wine, which reveals a certain delicacy and density. Aged in wood, the wine offers an interesting ageing potential of up to twenty years in the best vintages. It displays a complex bouquet of red and black berries, sweet spices and, with age, leather and humus. The tannins abound yet beautifully delicate.

About the Producer Domaine Perrot-Minot

The domaine’s history began in the 19th century with the generation of Amédée Merme who attempted to expand the family property. In 1902, Armand Merme took over and made many innovations in the field of vinification. The name Perrot-Minot was associated to the domaine in 1963, when one of Armand Merme’s four daughters married Henri Perrot-Minot. They took over the reins when Armand Merme passed away. Since 1993, their son Christophe Perrot-Minot (a wine broker for seven years) has run the domaine and still does today. His goal is to optimise the work and quality of the wines, thus carrying on the family tradition. The domaine has 13 hectares of vines distributed throughout the Côte de Nuits in villages, premier crus and grand crus which it completes by purchasing some grapes in Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze. These fine wines express the identity of each of these different terroirs. A magnificent name of the Côte de Nuits.
