Bourgueil Le Grand Mont Agnès et Xavier Amirault 2020
The wine
This Bourgueil Le Grand Mont produced by Domaine Agnès et Xavier Amirault is a red wine from the Loire Valley, originating from the Bourgueil appellation. It is elaborated from Cabernet Franc, revealing a clear, bright and rich ruby colour with purple reflections. On the nose, it reveals enticing aromas of red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, combined with hints of spice and slightly peppery notes, with a touch of liquorice and tobacco. On the palate, this Bourgueil delivers a fruity and lively attack, with flavours of red fruits, hints of spice and notes of undergrowth. The texture is elegant with fine, silky tannins, and the finish is long, persistent, and balanced, marked by a slight mineral touch.
It pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, mature cheeses, or mushroom-based saucy dishes. To fully appreciate its aromas and structure, we recommended you serve it at 16°C.
Domaine Amirault's history goes back nearly 180 years. The same family has been cultivating these vines on the Clos des Quarterons in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil for six generations. Today it is Xavier Amirault's turn to manage the estate. He took over from his brother Thierry, who is 15 years his senior. The vineyard spans 32 hectares and is biodynamically cultivated (Demeter certification since 2010). The wines are raised in the Vau Renou cellars, a large tuffeau stone quarry that is several hundred metres long. In the cellar, vinifications are long and meticulous. The wines are raised for a minimum of 12 months in demi-muids or foudres. The wines are neither filtered nor clarified and are defined by their fruit and very fine grain tannins.
