The wine
Located midway between Dijon and Beaune, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the Vosne Romanée appellation continues to enjoy an unrivalled reputation. The Pinot Noir vines, mainly located in the commune, are cultivated following environmentally friendly principles. This involves the winegrower constantly monitoring each parcel of vines to identify the smallest pests immediately to get rid of them without resorting to chemicals. The grapes are harvested at peak ripeness and carefully sorted before being vinified according to traditional methods, with as little intervention as possible.
The deep garnet-red colour reveals an intense, complex nose of red fruit aromas, complemented by notes of spice and subtle hints of clove. On the palate, a superb roundness combines perfectly with mocha flavours, resulting in a lingering, rich and flavourful finish.
The discrete domain Robert Sirugue spans 10 hectares of vines in the Bourgogne Rouge appellation. He owns vines in some excellent crus, including Romanée-Conti, Vosne-Romanée and Richebourg. One wine stands out: Grands Echezeaux, from a 0.13-hectare parcel.
