Eau de vie l'Abricot Roulot (Domaine)
The wine
Domaine Roulot, located on the eastern edge of the village of Meursault next to its celebrated neighbour Coche-Dury, is widely regarded as one of the leading names of the appellation. The estate has shaped a distinctive vision of Meursault wines, defined by finesse, tension and elegance, rather than the richness and overt opulence sometimes associated with the crus from the village. In many ways, Domaine Roulot helped shape the modern aesthetic of incisive, so-called mineral-driven wines. Alongside its acclaimed winemaking, the estate also produces spirits, reviving a long family tradition. The on-site distillery was reinstated by Jean-Marc Roulot in tribute to his father and grandfather, both former bouilleurs de cru (home distillers) at a time when wine was far less economically viable in the region. The estate’s liqueurs are remarkable for their purity and balance: light in alcohol, finely textured and remarkably airy. Pure pleasure, with striking sapidity.
Domaine Roulot, located in Meursault, is a family farm whose origins go back to the end of the 18th century. Guy Roulot has made this domaine one of the best of appellations (alongside Domaines such as Dominique Lafon and Coche Dury) and it now produces some of the best white wines of all Burgundy. Jean-Marc Roulot took over his father's domaine in 1989, casting aside his career as an actor (although he did not totally abandon it). The 11-hectare vineyard has been certified as organic farming since 1998 and biodynamic since the early 2000s. The vines are generally quite old, planted in the 1950-1960s from mass selection, mainly in white. Jean-Marc Roulot is unanimously recognised by his peers and by enthusiasts around the world, for his biological approach to the care given to vines, strict control of yields and perfectly controlled vinification and élevage with little intervention. Jean-Marc Roulot has chosen to vinify separately the different cuvées of Meursault villages to restore their specific characteristics. The wines are distinguished by their purity, freshness and fine minerality, thanks to harvesting with the correct ripeness. They are of an exceptionally high quality and have an assertive style. However, they are highly sought after and difficult to obtain.
