The famous high-end publication showcases every facet of the world of spirits, always favouring quality over quantity. Extensive work and exacting standards led to the creation of three outstanding spirits in 2022: a seven-year-old Chichibu, a seven-year-old Yuza and a three-year-old Sakurao. Inaugurated in 2018, the Sakurao distillery sits in the heart of Hatsukaichi, in the Hiroshima Prefecture, combining ancestral craftsmanship with modern innovation to create distinctive expressions. With the cold winds of the mountains and the mild climate of the Seto Sea air, the warehouses provide the ideal conditions to impart a rich, complex range of aromas to the whisky.
This Sakurao is a single malt from a single bourbon cask. Oily, salty aromas, evoking the coastline and refreshing sea breeze, emerge from the rich golden colour. On the palate, notes of sweet spice combine beautifully with nuances of seaweed and hints of iodine. The long and salty finish is particularly remarkable, leaving a lasting impression that invites you to savour every sip.
