More info

This cuvée comes from a parcel located on the hillside of Corton, 300 metres above sea level, overlooking the village of Ladoix. It benefits from the climate of the locality known as ‘Le Rognet’, nestled comfortably in the heart of the Côte de Nuits terroir. Here, Pinot Noir vines grow on limestone soils with advantageously poor soil and drainage.
Laurent Fournier, the family’s son, is in the process of converting the vines to organic farming, in line with his ambition to convert all crops. In addition, he is widely recognised as one of Burgundy’s winegrowers to look out for, producing red and white wines of ever-increasing quality. The winemaker hand harvests the grapes, then fills tanks with 50% whole grapes before maturing the wine in barrels, with 50% new wood, for 18 months.
Powerful, the black fruit notes are complemented by spicier ones. The palate is balanced and crisp, with fruit and undergrowth flavours. This is a wine for special occasions, best served at 16° C.

About the Producer Jean Fournier

Domaine Jean Fournier is one of the oldest in Marsannay, and the family has been present since the 17th century. The vineyard is spread over 16 hectares, spread over the best terroirs of the appellation. The vineyard is dominated by Pinot Noir, supplemented by a little Aligoté, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc. Since 2003, Laurent Fournier has been the head of the family farm. The domaine has long been involved in sustainable and responsible farming, before being certified as organic in 2008. Certain biodynamic practices are also used such as respect for lunar rhythms. The vines are quite old (about sixty years old), the extractions are very sweet and exact and élevage is long (up to three years, in barrels and vats). This contributes to the quality of the wines, which are powerful and typical of their terroir and their vintage. This area has demonstrated the high quality of its wines, which means that the appellation is highly reliable and should gain fame over the years to come. Keep your eye on this domaine!
