A superb balance is struck between the terroir’s minerality, the freshness of the fruit and the generosity of the ageing. A gastronomic wine from a Burgundy ‘haute-couture’ wine merchant masterfully led by Jean-Marie Guffens himself.
More infoTerre de Pierres, the name of this Pouilly-Fuissé, is the work of a trio of geniuses led by Jean-Marie Guffens, the so-called ’Chardonnay goldsmith’, alongside his wife Main and Julien Desplans. Together, they produce outstanding Mâconnais wines combining the minerality and verticality of the terroir with the generosity of the fruit and the complexity of the aromas and flavours created by the vinification process. In the vineyard, the grapes are lovingly nurtured on a terroir of rock-rich limestone. In the winery, vinifications are precise and culminate in an ageing period conducted in wooden vessels with barely any new oak. In the glass, the white wine reveals a yellow colour tinged with golden reflections. White fruit and quince aromas rise from the glass, complemented by hints of butter, pastry and fresh almond. The suave texture is slightly creamy on the mid-palate, yet enlivened by a remarkable persistent minerality.

★ Partner ProducerThe brilliant wine-maker Jean-Marie Guffens is behind Maison Verget which produces wines from grapes sourced across Burgundy but predominately from Mâconnais. This company created in 1990 in Sologny brings together all the wines of the trading business, with a superb range of appellations, from Chablis to Mâconnais, to highlight the specificities and nuances of each terroir.
The wines have acquired a solid reputation for their diamond-polished characteristics which are always very pure as well as being both rich and taut at the same time. The grapes are sourced from exemplary partner wineries and the winemaking and maturation processes are conduction with the same precision. A safe bet in Burgundy, Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen is a Master in the art of Chardonnay. Since 2012, the brilliant oenologist Julien Desplans has joined him as a cellar master. Trained at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, he takes the company to new heights, helping it win the award “Trading Business of the Year” in 2020 from the French wine magazine La Revue du vin de France.
