A great Savennières wine made from a rare terroir, the product of meticulous maturation in barrels and stoneware jars. Its Burgundy-like profile would be enough to confuse any wine lover!
More infoDomaine Laureau gives us this amazing Savennières wine that connoisseurs have taken no time in labelling as one of the greatest of its appellation. This cuvée comes from an eponymous parcel, which previously belonged to Damien Laureau’s parents, before it was planted in 1999. The Chenin vines soak up the essence of their very special terroir, which has nuances of aeolian sands and blue and sandstone schists. The terroir is rather rare and its character is intensified in the wine by a very precise vinification process. This includes fermenting the grapes in new 400-litre “pièces” barrels and allowing the wine to mature “sous bois” for one month before resting for 18 months in stoneware jars.
Production is limited, with a little over 1,000 bottles per vintage, and these can be left in the cellar for a few years. The wine offers a profile reminiscent of Burgundy ageing. Notes of well-ripened fruits and quince are complemented by a magnificent minerality.

About the Producer Domaine Laureau
Domaine Laureau is located in the Loire Valley, not far from Angers, and has been part of the winemaking landscape for over 20 years. This is where Damien Laureau cultivates six hectares of Chenin, converted to organic farming since 2012.
Absolutely no synthetic products come into play in this vineyard. Life develops naturally underground helping to retain the purest expression of the terroir. Manual work performed in the vineyard further reinforces this ethos. Several successive passes are conducted to harvest the Chenin grapes, which are then left to settle for around 12 hours. Once fermentation using native yeasts is complete, the cuvées are matured on the lees for 18 to 24 months, gradually increasing the wine’s roundness and aromatic richness.
Damien recently planted half a hectare of vines in a closed vineyard overlooking the region. This promises further authentic cuvées reflecting the peaceful harmony achieved between the winemaker and the life of his land.
