The Brunello di Montalcino Vignaferrovia Riserva is a cuvée which takes its name from a former 19th-century railway station near the vines. The four-hectare vineyard faces south-west and has rocky, gravelly soil. This cuvée is only produced during the best years to ensure the highest quality of the vintage. The vinification process starts with destemming and gently pressing the Sangiovese grapes. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in the stainless-steel tanks while the wine remains in contact with the grape skins for around 24 days before being aged in oak barrels for two and a half years.
The notes of red fruits blend with aromas of liquorice root, roasted tobacco leaf, leather and chocolate. Its richness is completed by a silky smoothness, while its freshness derives from hints of balsamic vinegar, with an after-taste of Mediterranean herbs. This elegant and captivating wine offers a dense tannic structure, balanced by a freshness and remarkable smoothness.

About the Producer Antinori

Antinori. This true Italian dynasty had been producing wine since 1385.
The family which can trace its history back to 1179 when Accarisio di Antinoro bought land from the Abbey of Passignano. Badia a Passignano is still one of a number of domains found in the group today which is spread out over Tuscany, Umbria, Piedmont, Lombardy, Puglia and even outside of Italy.
In the 1960s and 1970s, the family participated in the Super Tuscan revolution – wine for ageing made in the style of the great Bordeaux. Today, after 26 generations, the story continues with Albiera Antinori who is supported by his sisters, Allegra et Alessia, following their father, Marchese Piero Antinori.
