Created as a tribute to Albert Blanton, a pioneer of single-barrel bottling and a towering figure in the world of bourbon.

More info

Albert Bacon Blanton served as director of the namesake distillery from 1921 to 1942, overseeing what was then the largest bourbon producer in the country. At the time, Colonel Blanton established his own private reserve, composed of carefully selected barrels matured for many years in Warehouse H, which he would bottle individually for distinguished guests. In 1984, Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee revived this bottling tradition, launching The Original, marking a turning point as the world’s first ‘single-barrel’ bourbon, and the catalyst for the super-premium bourbon category. Warehouse H, constructed from metal, plays a key role in shaping the character of The Original. The more pronounced temperature fluctuations accelerate the interaction between spirit and oak, driving the distinctive toasted profile of the whiskey. Generous and rich, The Original is immediately appealing with its inviting floral, citrus, and caramel aromatics. On the palate, flavours of vanilla, cinnamon, and clove are harmoniously balanced, flowing into a long, spiced finish.

About the Producer Blanton's Buffalo Trace

The Buffalo Trace distillery was built in Frankfort, an hour east of Louisville (the capital of Kentucky), near a ford crossing the Kentucky River once thought to have been followed by huge herds of buffalo. Originally known as Old Fire Copper (O.F.C.), it was renamed George T. Stagg in 1900 and run by Colonel Blanton from 1921 to 1953. During Prohibition, it was one of the four American distilleries authorized to produce whiskey for medicinal purposes. Again renamed Ancient Age in 1969, it has been known as Buffalo Trace since 1999 and has the name emblazoned on a water tower worthy of a famous western. A pioneer in more ways than one, it was the first to sell a single barrel bourbon in 1984 - Blanton’s. It is also the only Kentucky distillery to make five styles of different whiskey, two from rye, one from barley, one from wheat and a 100% pure rye whiskey. It therefore has the largest range and stock of old American whiskeys in the world. In addition to these classic ranges, the distillery also bottles two ranges popular with enthusiasts around the world, the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection and Pappy Van Winkle. The distillery also owns more than 1,500 experimental casks used to explore a wide range of ageing methods.
