Lot presentation

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC Francesco Valentini 1992

The wine

Whilst modest, domain Valentini is an emblematic figure of the Tuscan region that proves its reputation here with a legendary Montepulciano. Whilst the farming and vinification techniques used are a closely guarded secret, we know that the Sangiovese grapes are grown in pergolas to better hold the heat from the sun. They are also treated biodynamically. In the winery, the grapes are fermented using indigenous yeasts, then vinification takes place in concrete vats before the wine is matured in old, Slovenian foudres, the oldest being 70 years old! We should note that that the quantities produced are very limited. Its aromatic bouquet is marked by red fruits, violets, cherry brandy and earthy notes. There is a softness to the tannins as well as a roundness, concentration, and beautiful persistence. To enjoy this cru at its best, we recommend keeping it in the cellar for 10 to 15 years and serving it with a characterful dish.
