Lot presentation

Oban 17 years 1972 Gordon & MacPhail Old Map Label Connoisseurs Choice

The wine

A single malt distilled in 1972 by William Greer & Co Ltd at the Oban distillery on the west coast of the north of Scotland. A bottling produced by the Elgin independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail between 1989 and 1991, imported to Italy by Fiori Ferdinando. The Connoisseurs Choice range was introduced in the early 1970s for the Italian Edoardo Giaccone. It was then widely used by Gordon & MacPhail from 1978-1979 onwards. Over the decades it underwent several changes. This version, known to collectors as the “Map Label”, was used from 1989 to 1997.Bottle equipped with a gold screw cap and Italian tax strip. Note that this may be broken due to the need to regularly tighten the cap, which comes loose with time, allowing the spirit to evaporate.

About the Producer Oban

Scotland, Western Highlands. Distillery operational. Owner: Diageo

Found in the centre of the town of the same name, Oban has developed a solid reputation since joining the Six Classic Malts range in 1988. Whilst its rise to glory has been less spectacular than that of Lagavulin and Talisker, it is no less legitimate, thanks to bottlings released under the Distillers Edition and Manager's Dram labels, and its vintage bottlings, including an outstanding Oban 32 Year Old 1969 and a 20 Year Old 1984. With a very modest production capacity (approx. 700,000 litres of spirit per year) compared to its colleagues - 1.2 to 2.3 million litres of spirit per year), Oban's owners take special care to ensure the sustainability its stocks.
