The wine
A Lowland single malt distilled at Ladyburn, a malt distillery built on the Girvan site (grain distillery) by the family-owned company William Grant & Sons, operating from 1966 to 1975. A version bottled by the independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail in 2000 under the Rare Old label. Independent bottlings of Ladyburn are all bottled under the name “Ayrshire”.The Rare Old range was introduced in this format in the mid-90s. In just the 12 months of 1996, Glenlossie 1961, Convalmore 1960 and Glenrothes 1961 were all released on the market. Two colours - brown and burgundy - were used for labels up until 2010. In 2012 the range was fully updated to suit modern tastes.
About the Producer Ladyburn Rare Ayrshire
Produced at the Girvan grain distillery, the Ladyburn single malt (also known as Rare Ayrshire by independent bottlers) was produced for only 9 years, from 1966 to 1975. This very rare Lowland whisky, renowned for its delicate aromas, is particularly rare in the current market.
