The wine
Domaine Christian Binner is one of the pioneers of biodynamic growing, a method now particularly widespread in this region. The family domain dates back to 1770, with bottling experience beginning in the 40s; quite rare at a time when most vine-growers were selling their grapes to local merchants.
In Ammerschwihr (between Colmar and Kayserberg), Christian Binner cultivates around 15 hectares of vines, vinifying the grapes as naturally as possible. This means additives and extra sulphur are banned. The domain grows most of its vines on sloping land as well as on three grands crus. They also have a bioclimatic cellar, a natural cellar made from Vosge stone and pinewood from the valley. This apparently “vibratory” place is where the wines are aged in hundred-year-old oak casks.
