Glenury Royal 1984 Gordon & MacPhail Refill Sherry Butt John Gillon & Co Ltd Rare Old
The wine
A Glenury Royal distilled in 1984 and bottled by Scottish independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail for the Rare Old series in 2010. Matured in a second-fill sherry cask. Gordon & MacPhail's Rare Old range featured extremely rare bottlings, many from closed distilleries. It was discontinued in 2018.
About the Producer Glenury Royal
Glenury Royal was built in 1825 by Captain Robert Barclay, who was a friend of King William IV, enabling it to use the ‘Royal' prefix. After changing hands on various occasions, it was bought by Distillers Company Limited (DCL, the future Diageo) in 1953. After being expanded in 1985 in the midst of a whisky boom, it closed in 1985 in the height of the overproduction crisis. Glenury Royal is an oily, lightly peated and exotic whisky, a few bottles of which can be found among independent bottlers and in Diageo's Rare Malts range.
