Glenkinchie 1974 Gordon & MacPhail Old Map Label John Haig & Co Ltd Connoisseurs Choice

The wine

A Glenkinchie distilled in 1974 and bottled by Scottish independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail for the famous Connoisseurs Choice series. Connoisseurs Choice was one of Gordon & MacPhail's spearhead ranges. Created for the Italian collector and importer Edoardo Giaccone in the early 1970s, it entered the standard collection in 1979 and has been part of it ever since, although it has undergone many changes, from the map labels to its gradient labels and finally the design found today. Although diluted to the minimum degree permitted and coloured artificially, these old editions are vibrant reflections of the whiskies of the past. This edition was imported to Italy by Meregalli.

About the Producer Glenkinchie

Scotland, Lowlands. Distillery operational. Owner: Diageo

Glenkinchie was originally founded as Milton Distillery in 1825, before later changing its name to Glenkinchie in 1837. It is one of the rare Lowland distilleries still in operation as the region, which was once prosperous and favoured for whisky production, fell out of favour in the 18th century due to an unfavourable taxation system and low-quality spirit. Welcomed into the Scottish Malt Distillers Ltd in the early 1920s, Glenkinchie has seldom been closed and has become an essential malt for numerous blends, including Dewars, Dimple and Haig. Bottlings in its own names are rare, however, and its reputation has been built primarily through the Six Classic Malts range.
