Glenury Royal 50 years 1953 Of. One of 498 bottles

The wine

A Glenury Royal 50 Year Old distilled in 1953. This bottling celebrates marathon runner Robert Barclay Allardice, better known as Captain Barclay, who walked one mile every hour for a thousand hours between 1 June and 12 July 1809. He was also responsible for Glenury’’s construction in 1825. A limited edition of 498 bottles.

About the Producer Glenury Royal

Glenury Royal was built in 1825 by Captain Robert Barclay, who was a friend of King William IV, enabling it to use the ‘Royal' prefix. After changing hands on various occasions, it was bought by Distillers Company Limited (DCL, the future Diageo) in 1953. After being expanded in 1985 in the midst of a whisky boom, it closed in 1985 in the height of the overproduction crisis. Glenury Royal is an oily, lightly peated and exotic whisky, a few bottles of which can be found among independent bottlers and in Diageo's Rare Malts range.
