Lot presentation

Loch Dhu 10 years Of. The Black Whisky

The wine

A Speyside single malt aged for at least 10 years, distilled at Mannochmore distillery (founded in 1971), exhibiting a black colour apparently resulting from maturation in heavily charred oak barrels. Since then, another hypothesis has been put forward that the colour in fact came from excessive use of the colouring (caramel E150) used in the industry at the time (and still today). Released on the market in 2000, this whisky has since become a collectible. Bottle equipped with a cork stopper and stamped short black foil seal.

About the Producer Mannochmore

Mannochmore was founded in the 1960s to meet the growing demand for whisky. Primarily used to produced whisky for the Haig and Dimple blend, it is today known to collectors for its iconic black whisky Loch Dhu. This whisky, which was highly criticized for its unnatural colour when it was first released, would return sometime later on the secondary market.
