Kilkerran 13 years 2004 Cadenhead's bottled 2017 Warehouse Tasting
The wine
A Kilkerran 13 year old distilled in 2004 and bottled in 2017. Cadenhead was founded in 1842 by George Duncan, who was quickly joined by William Cadenhead who renamed the business after Duncan’’s death in 1858. When Cadenhead in turn passed away in 1904, his nephew Robert Duthie took over and turned the business into the independent bottler it is today. After Duthie, it was managed by one of his employees, Ann Olivier, whose stubborn approach to running the business led to much of the stock having to be sold at auction by Christie’’s (London) in 1972 to feed the kitty and save the business. It was then sold to J. & A. Mitchell and Co, who also owned Springbank, and moved to Campbeltown.
About the Producer Kilkerran
Glengyle is a Campbeltown distillery founded by William Mitchell in 1872. After being bought by the West Highlands Malt Distilleries group, it closed in 1925 following the crisis and only reopened in 2000 when it was bought by the Springbank team, who equipped it with stills from the former Ben Wyvis distillery. Distillation recommenced in 2004 and the first single malt was bottled in 2007. Interestingly, J&A Mitchell bought only the distillery and not the Glengyle brand, which is owned by Glen Scotia, leading to bottlings being released under the name Kilkerran.
