Lot presentation

Strathmill 24 years 1993 Cadenhead's Small Batch One of 354 - bottled 2017

The wine

A Strathisla 24 year old distilled in 1993 and bottled in 2017. Cadenhead was founded in 1842 by George Duncan, who was quickly joined by William Cadenhead, who renamed the business after Duncan’’s death in 1858. When Cadenhead in turn passed away in 1904, his nephew Robert Duthie took over and turned the business into the independent bottler it is today. After Duthie, it was managed by one of his employees, Ann Olivier, whose stubborn approach to running the business led to much of the stock having to be sold at auction by Christie’’s (London) in 1972 to feed the kitty and save the business. It was then sold to J. & A. Mitchell and Co, who also owned Springbank, and moved to Campbeltown. A limited edition of 354 bottles.

About the Producer Strathmill

Strathmill was founded in 1892 under the name Glenisla-Glenlivet. It took its current name three years later when it was bought by W&A Gilbey, which would become International Distillers and Vintners (IDV) in 1962. Strathmill became a key component of the group’‘s flagship blend Justerini & Brooks (J&B). Now owned by Diageo, the distillery continues to be used for this purpose. For this reason, few official bottlings exist, save for a Flora & Fauna, a Special Release and a Manager’‘s Dram. Expressions of the single malt are more commonly found as independent bottlings.
