Lot presentation

Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens Domaine Comte De Chapelle (no reserve) 2018

The wine

Welcome to the world of eternal nectars! AOC Pommard is renowned for producing wines with an unequalled cellaring potential and counts 313 hectares, 125 of which are classified as Premiers Crus. Pommard, along with Chablis, has the privilege of figuring among the most renowned Burgundy appellations overseas. Victor Hugo was particularly fond of Pommard, which grows in clay-limestone ferruginous soil that produces a well-structured, tannic wine, with multiple aromas evoking blackcurrant, plum, pepper and leather.
Two climats distinguishes themselves in particular in this appellation that has no grand cru, but only premiers crus: Les Rugiens, situated south-west of the village, near to Volnay, where the clay limestone soil produces the most virile and structured Pommards, more severe as young wines. Les Epenots and Les Grands Epenots, nearer to Beaune, stand out with their lovely rich aroma and a more supple character than Les Rugiens. If Pommard requires in general a cellaring of at least five years, Les Rugiens will be better left for another three to five years.
