A1710 Of. Tricentenaire Rhum Extraordinaire
The wine
An A1710 Tricentenaire rhum agricole produced at Habitation du Simon in Martinique. It is a blend of five rums aged for six to 17 years in oak casks.
About the Producer A1710
The A1710 distillery was founded in 2006 by Yves Assier de Pompignan in a former 18th century sugar purgery at Habitation Simon in the east of Martinique. The name combines the initials of the estate’s founder, Yves’ ancestor Jean Assier, and the year it was created, 1710. Yves Assier de Pompignan’s great grandfather also owned the Saint James distillery, with links to the Hayot family, who run Habitation Simon. The estate grows two varieties of cane, red and blue, using organic farming practices. After harvest, the cane is ground in a three-roll mill similar to those used in the 19th century. Distillation is carried out in a copper Charente pot still that has a built-in seven-plate column.
