Mercurey Vieilles Vignes François Raquillet 2017
The wine
This white vieilles vignes Mercurey is grown in the Plateau des Montelons, a cool, windy area with limestone soil. Its forty-year-old vines are harvested manually and sorted. Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are pressed prior to alcoholic fermentation in casks. The wine is matured for one year (30% new wood) on fine lees. It is fresh and precise, revealing notes of yellow fruit and citrus. These fresh notes require the wine to be drunk in its early youth to prevent the risk of "fading". The supple palate enables gourmet pairings with a hearty aperitif or a starter.
About the Producer François Raquillet
François Raquillet comes from a family of winemakers in their 10th generation. He took over the family domaine in 1990 which spans 10 hectares mostly in the Mercurey appellation. The range from Domaine Raquillet offer some of the finest examples of the appellation. The Mercurey La Brigadière is a wonderful white that pairs well with grilled fish. It has distinct aromas of white flowers and offers up great minerality in the mouth and a long finish.
