Château Phélan Ségur

This Bordeaux château, which dates back o the start of the 19 century, overlooks the Gironde estuary. Its elegant wines are known for being delicate and aged beautifully thanks to the expertise of the team.

The origins of the Château date back to the start of the 19th century when Bernard O’Phelan, an Irish négociant based in Bordeaux, bought two domains: Clos de Gamarey (purchased in 1805) and Ségur de Cabanac (purchased in 1810) which, today, make up Château Phélan Ségur. In 1985, Xavier Gardinier bought it from the Delon family and ran the domain with his three sons, Thierry, Stéphane and Laurent. Since January 2018, Philippe Van de Vyvere and his sons have owned the château.
The Château Phélan Ségur vineyard stretches over the eastern part of Saint-Estèphe and covers 70 hectares. The vines are planted in gravel covered by sandy clay with a limestone subsoil. 44 hectares of parkland and forests make up the rest of the property and is a wonderful setting for biodiversity.
The château pays particular attention to its ageing process, aiming to create a wine full of finesse and elegance. The domain also makes two second wines, also from the Saint Estèphe appellation. They are Frank Phélan and the Croix Bonis which come from plots mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon.
