Château Giscours

Château Giscours returned to its former glory in 1995, after a few years of more modest success. Today, everything is in place for this Margaux troisième grand cru classé to produce first-rate wines, renowned for their richness and full-bodied character.

Founded in the 16th century, Château Giscours is one of the largest properties in the Médoc, and owes its winemaking vocation to its owner Pierre de Lhomme, who planted the very first vines in 1552. They greatly benefit from the influence of a gravelly soil that rests on a foundation of sand and gravel. The creation of a lake near the château has improved the soil’s drainage. The exceptional terroir offers optimal conditions for producing high-quality wines: favourable orientation, warm soils in spring, excellent root permeability, balanced fertility, and regulated water supply during summer.
Following familial and financial challenges, Dutch businessman Eric Albada-Jelgersma acquired the property in 1995. Since then, under the management of the enthusiast Alexander Van Beek, this troisième grand cru classé has regained its reputation thanks to considerable efforts in the vineyard (160 hectares) and in the winery, where four wines are produced (Grand Vin de Château Giscours, Sirène de Giscours, Haut-Médoc de Giscours and Rosé de Giscours).
