Engenhos do Norte
Engenhos do Norte was built in 1927 in Porto da Cruz, on the north coast of Madeira, an island that was once a major sugar producer. It was created by a group of some 50 small producers of cane honey and rhum agricole, an appellation very few locations outside France’‘s overseas departments are authorized to use. The distillery is still equipped with steam-run equipment from the period and a large Barbet column still. It now produces a number of different rum brands, including 980, Branca and Rhum North.
