Wine for sale: Invergordon
Invergordon
Founded in the heart of Ross-shire, on the east coast of the Northern Highlands, in 1959, the company was originally intended to be Invergordon’s grain distillery. It was acquired a year later to establish the Invergordon Distillers Ltd. During the 1960s, the business grew considerably, enabling two small malt whisky distilleries to be built, one inside the premises and the other outside. The company’s first whisky, crafted in a still, was unveiled in 1961. Two further stills were installed in 1963, followed by a fourth in 1978. Over the years, the business expanded to the point where it owned six malt whisky distilleries. In the 1990s, the Invergordon distilleries changed ownership once again, passing into the hands of the Whyte & Mackay group. With an impressive production capacity of around 40 million litres per year, the Invergordon distilleries are one of the world’s leading malt whisky producers.
