Jo Landron

Domain Jo Landron is one of the most important and renowned producers of Muscadet: we are pleased to present you this winemaker, who has worked extremely hard to achieve recognition for the region’s wines. Biodynamic viticulture, single-vineyard cuvées, respect for each terroir and exacting standards come together to produce wines of great class, with excellent aging potential and minerality.

Today, Jo Landron is a key Loire wine producer having helped reinvigorate the fortunes of Muscadet wines which have long been considered a simple aperitif. In 1979 Jo joined the vineyard which his father had acquired in 1945. Convinced of the benefits of organic farming, he persuaded his father to convert the domain to organic in 1987 and went on to adopt a biodynamic approach in 2011. There are currently 48 hectares of vines spread across two properties - Château de la Carizière in la Haye Fouassière, and Domaine de la Louvetrie on the banks of the Sèvre. Jo Landron grows Melon de Bourgogne, also known as Muscadet, which is the regional grape variety par excellence. His wines have a surprisingly good texture and acidity with some light salty notes. They are the ideal accompaniment at the table but some cuvées are a delight to drink on their own. This domain has worked its way to the top of the appellation and its wines can be found in many high-end restaurants. Half of its output is exported.

WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY...

BETTANE & DESSEAUVE

Jo Landron’s domains span 48 hectares in two different locations, Domaine de la Louvetrie and Château de la Carizière. The mustachioed Jo Landron, something of a wizard with Melon de Bourgogne, is one of the finest and most consistent producers of Muscadet. The wines evolve perfectly with time. The wines evolve perfectly with time. All of the cuvées have great class and deserve to be tasted in magnums.

LA REVUE DU VIN DE FRANCE

Cuvées from Jo Landron have become an unmissable reference point in the small family of terroir-driven Muscadets.
